Well I have the fujifilm finepix S2000HD, and it is a wonderful camara. It takes high quality photographs and movies.
I have a nikon D40 with interchangeable lenses. It is excellent. I talked to a professional photographer before I bought mine and he told me that going up in mega pixels is a waste of time unless you are going to blow the pictures up to poster or life size.
I have the D60 which I bought for less than $700 with a 18-55mm VR Nikkor lens. It takes breathtaking pictures but it is a little on the expensive side compared to the D40 (about $200 more).
I just returned the D40 (also a nice camera) for the d60 with VR lenses (The 18-55 and the 55-200)
I can not say enough great things about this camera. The VR makes a BIG difference. If you are considering buying a DSLR and are moving from a Point and shoot to a DSLR this is the one you want!!! WITH VR (vibration reduction!!)
D60 is a great choice. It is very easy to use and provides excellent images without requiring a lot of technical knowledge
I got the D90. Its the most awesome camera!!!! I also am a first SLR user. I am so happy I decided to get one!
